Buying a point and shoot camera...What to look for?

Image
Well a digital camera has become a basic need for everyone today as it helps capture all those beautiful moments that would otherwise have been lost. Everyone wants a camera but very few are exactly acquainted with what to look for. I too was an amateur in this field but recently I did an extensive research before buying my new camera Nikon S9100! If your needs are similar to mine, i.e. you are no expert at photography and just need the best 'point & shoot' camera there is in the market, here are the stuff you need to look for: 1. 10-12 MP is fine (higher MP doesn't mean better picture, it would only increase the picture size) 2. 5x optical zoom is enough if ur snapshooter, undecided or casual shooter 3.Go for retractable zoom lens 4. Li ion or NiMH batteries 5. 1080p HD / 720 p video recording is descent 6. CMOS Sensor (for better captures in low light) 7. Do see the CNET review and ratings before buying Hope it helps you guys as much as it helped me. Ha

The Grand Design of the Universe

Image
I have been reading this novel, “The Grand Design” written by Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow, that gives an insight into the various mysteries of nature, the laws that govern it, the theories that have been devised to understand its phenomena and it reality challenges the very perception of reality. This is a truly ‘mind blowing stuff’ as was quoted by the Sunday Times. I would definitely like to mention a few points from the book I myself found fascinating and intrigued my senses. 1. There are so many things about this universe we often wonder about. How does the universe behave? Did the universe need a creator? What is the nature of reality? Traditionally these are questions for philosophy, but philosophy is dead. It has failed to keep up with the modern developments in science more particularly, physics, & the book aims to give answers suggested by recent discoveries and inventions. 2. Ignorance of Nature’s ways led people in ancient times to invent Gods and deties.

The Matheran Trip

Image
Getting up at 5 in the morning is not the easiest thing to do especially if you have my habit of waking up at 11 on a daily basis. However such miracles do happen, on occasions similar to today’s: The Matheran trip. I got up at 5.15 and was ready in less than 15 minutes. The Iciness of the morning air was frigidly amazing as it struck me on my face. I can imagine what my sister would be feeling who was driving the activa to the Shivaji Nagar station. We were accompanied by Jayesh and Avatar, two of my sister’s colleagues from DRDO. We took the first local to Karjat and then another to Narel. A toy train is available from Narel to Matheran . But seeing a big huddle for the toy train tickets, we decided to hire a taxi. We reached Matheran in 20 minutes max and there began our ‘trekking’! It wasn’t the usual trekking though, all we had to do was follow the toy train tracks as it curved through the Matheran hills. It wasn’t the best thing to do but we had no choice...We had

First week of hols...@Pune...!!

Image
It had been some time since I last met my sis. This holiday provided the perfect opportunity for a much awaited reunion! It was also the first time I got to see her place in Pune..A little appartment so neatly and beautifully arranged that you can just not 'NOT' like it! I am really liking it here and even the city is fun to explore with di. I also checked out her new phone (HTC Incredible), new Ipod, new lapi (Macbook), new speakers (Bose), etc etc and everything was as classy as the name suggests! Looking forward to spending more time here :)

Love & Career...Cant they go together!

Image
I wouldn't be asking that question had I not come across a similar discussion on this site... http://www.youthkiawaaz.com/2011/03/are-you-balancing-love-and-career/ It has been argued that the age 16-22 is the most critical and decisive in shaping one's career and thus every such individual must devote time solely towards the 'career' because the make and break of relationships affects overall performance and eclipses the path to success! The Question is "Is it really true?"... Do career and love always have to be considered as two extremes? Does love always hinder success? It is an intricate question, & crucial too because it not only would affect the present, but also shape one's future... The answer I came up with after a minute of thought is that love and career are not things that always have to be in 'phase opposition' (an electrical term that so beautifully fits here). Career is important...After all, what would one do with 'not

Double placement season begins @ NIT-T!!

Image
Yess its here...and am fortunate enough to be the one with the first such offer!!! The choice between Powergrid & TATA STEEL was simple though...I would go for powergrid cos its a core electrical company...a PSU and a Navratna! :) That takes the count of the number of ppl placed in EEE to 23 at par with CS! I am happy our project at TATA STEEL (mine and Ankur's) was good enough that we got the offer!

Interesting...Very Interesting!

A Heavy diet and a fun Night!

15th August...it was my last birthday here at college and trust me it was one of the best! Birthdays here at NITT are not like the normal ones that 'normal' people celebrate...they are grand and the 'GPL' is grander ;) As always being a national holiday, we were free for the entire day! So we set out for market by 5 itself (Actually we had decided for 4 but then all of us were fast asleep...) After some 'book' shopping we went to the THAI, a great place at chhatram where they give quality food. And then began the eating part. Once the food is on the table noone cares about anything else but it. The soul important work to be done is devour it all, as much as you can and as quickly as you can so you always have room for more! It was no different at my party. We ate and ate, this being our first outing of the semester to the city and we dint want to miss it. The bill reached a 100 short of 2000 bucks and I obliged. Then we had a round of Icecreams, which were awe

Tomorrow is special...

15th August...It has always been soo very special for me!! And why not, its my birthday! There are a number of good, happy and important events that follow it, making it all the more important. 15th is the independence day, 16th one of my happiest days, 28th is my very good friend's bday, 29th is my sis's bday and 1st sep is an important date for me as well! All in all, august has always been lucky for me....this time even more so cos I got a job on August the 11th! The celebrations that followed were nice and a lil painful too...thanks to my friends ;) And now on my bday tomorrow I just hope the 'pain' is lesser! :D Pratyush

The Sunshine...

Image
Just the other day I was watching this awesome movie...Sunshine! What made it so intriguing was the concept..."Our Sun is Dying", so it starts and introduces a completely lateral solution to rekindle the sun. They intend to give the dying sun all of the earth's nuclear energy in a last attempt to restore its light! Icarus I, the first such mission had failed and the plot begins with the Icarus II and its 7 member crew. Life on Icarus II is so awesome'ly real looking. With the payload (Nuclear) delivery being its most important objective, and facing so many problems on the way, they know they won't be able to make it back to earth. The drama is intense and reaches its acme when the Icarus I is found midway inoperational and floating. Against all odds they plan to check it out by docking with it but that causes an unexpected guest to get onboard Icarus II...the psycho commander of Icarus I who's adamnant on stopping the mission. The climax comes when the payload

Jobless with a job in hand!

Am I getting jobless since the day I got Powergrid which was just about 2 days from today! I guess I am and its not a very good state to be in. When your friends are studying for their placements and all you have to do is 'find ways to waste your tym' and even this job is pretty hard. Watching movies does the trick sometimes and chit chatting with friends helps too but in the end you've got to admit, YOU WANT TO DO SOMETHING USEFUL! Maybe its time I started studying for my cycle tests...probably after my Bday (15th Aug) :) Till then...leme find some movies!!!! Over & Out

POWERGRID...Dreams do come true!!!

It has been quite some time since I last shared anything on my blog. The reason was I was 'busy'...Now busy is just one word. It doesnt mean i was busy with my workload or studies etc, it means there were too many things going on...too many good things I would say! :) On 16th August 2010, I got what I so dearly wanted...something I wouldnt want to share here right now, all I can say is that I couldnt have wished for more! And on 11th August 2011, approximately 1 year after the 16th, I got an opportunity to the Power Grid (PGCIL), India's leading company in the Grid transmission & Distribution. I had worked hard, preparing for it...so many days of making those machines, T&D & protection Notes...and then going through them time and again. The interview went good (a lil too easy I would say) but it left me uncertain. And when the results were out, well I was overwhelmed...It was a dream come true...Getting placed in one of electrical's hi
